Thea is diminutive of Dorothea or Theodora. Theodora originates in Greek language and means "God's present". It is a feminine form of Theodore. Theodora was the name of many Roman empresses, as well as the name of several Christian saints. As a feminine given name it is rather rare and considered old-fashioned in the United States.Thea is also the name of the Themed Entertainment Association annual award.
